Happy Friday the 13th. I am a somewhat superstitious person. I'm not like black cats and lucky rabbits foot, but I don't walk underneath ladders (that's just common sense.) And a broken mirror, well that's just a shame.
When I was a kid I was scared of Jason and since the new Friday The 13th movie is out... I still wont be going to see it.

Obama Goes to Washington

Barack Obama was sworn in today as America's 44th president. And of course the country's first African American president.
As a canadian I am hopeful with this new administration into the White House will bring new life and new ideals that are long over due. And perhaps give a smack up side the head to our current administration!
Let's hope all this talk of Hope and change will come! Hopefully everyone will get on board after they realize that it's going to take a lot of work from everyone.

Cold enough for yah?!

BRRRRRRRRRRR! It's cold out there! If you have noticed it's been really cold here in Toronto the past few days. To add insult to injury I was effected by the wide spread area of Toronto blackout. I didn't have any power for 24hrs! I was almost tempted to sleep at the studio last night. It was so cold in my house I could see my breath. Thankfully the power came back on around 9:30pm last night.

Merry Christmas everyone. I know it's a day late, but the sentement is still the same.

I was out Boxing Day shopping today. I was waiting patiently for a parking spot when I was rear-ended by another driver! Thankfully we were both fine. Only scratches to the side of my car. It's still an unfortunate thing to happen around the holidays. (or any time for that matter.)

On a brighter note I have a new piece of equipment for out onlocation shooting. It is called a fig-rig. Some people might know it as a steadi-cam. It has the same abilites as a steadi-cam, but it looks different in its design and set up. (Click on the link above to see what the Fig Rig looks like)

Just over a month away before Christmas. Wow, it sneaks up so fast. Tammy and I put the tree up tonight. I actually had free time to go and do some christmas shopping today! It's amazing for me I've started before December 1st! I gues some things DO change.

Another Great Bridal Show!

As they say "All good things must come to an end" And in this case it was this years fall Canada's Bridal Show. It was great to see all of you there. We plan on seeing many of you again in our studio book your video packages with us.
I missed my baseball game today! Only because I was at the show meeting and greeting with all of you great people. Just if you are keeping score... we lost again. It seems I was not the only member of the team that missed the game. Are team only had 5 players. The other team had to lend us one of theres in order to play.

First I thought how cruel then I realized that it wasn't mine so then I didn't feel so bad. I am a blackberry user so take that apple! 2007 was a good year

For all the doom and gloom of 2007 (just read the news paper today) for DGgroup and Excellence Photography it was a good year. Personally not too good in the end but business was good.

I love to set goals.

Personally I've had a set back. Eating too much over the holidays, getting sick and not generally happy enough had left me feeling angry, upset and unsatisfied. But today is a new day. I couldnt sleep all night last night. Just laid there thinking about good things and bad things. Finally I decided to decide.

Ya sounds weird. But conscientiously making a decision has always help me make drastic changes in my life. I decided to get married. I decided to have children, start a business, then another, buy a car etc. I think the times I am most likely to have problems in my life is when I let life decide, or go with the flow.

Can you think of something you can improve in your life??

Here is my top 3

Need to meditate more. The lack of focus and control that seems to trap me is caused by not slowing down. Meditation could be the key
Be more thankful - I have a wonderful wife, family and friends. I need to reward them with time.
get healthy - not just me but all the facets of my life. Weight, air quality, recycle more and postive energy.

Ahhh Sleep!!

Alex and I sent Thursday night together --- oohhhaaaaaa ----- running orders for TorontoHomeMovies.com and while Alex, Vitali, Anton, Aaron, Arthur, Natalie, Shanay and John have worked 12-16 hours a day for the past 2 months we are finally down to the last few orders. I miss working as a team on a single goal. When I 20 I was a member of the Cadets of Bergen county. Working with a group of people on a common goal takes strong leadership and dedicated people. Thanks to Alex and the great people who work at the Toronto office we will be able to get everyones order out for xmas!!!

In Florida - Although the team is much smaller things are progressing really well with Matt's guidance. I can't wait to meet all the appointment we have made for weddings in Florida this year. The new Boca site will be finalized thanks to Matt and Tim on January 1st.

On Tuesday I did my first all nighter in many years. It was amazing. Around 3am I realized how late it was but thought to myself what the hell. Around 2pm the next day I was till going strong!!

Of course, I just returned from a week in the south. Went to St. Thomas and St Martin. Me and the family even did some cruising on a 25 ft boston whaler in Orlando. Next week we are out of here again!!! Email me if you need me, we will not be picking up phone messages until January 1st.

I took some incredible photos this morning at G Ross park. It reminded me that I promised to write about a few funny things that always happens.

OK

Now most of you met either me or Marianna at the first appointment. But in some cases (like today, stephanie booked us over 748 days before here wedding) I probably wont recognize you unless we come up with a code.

Here 3 things you can do to help me identify you are the people I'm looking for.

If you drive into the park and see a blue jaguar s type. It's probably me. Stop say hi Jean we're the couple you are supposed to be meeting.
Drive around the parking lot 5 times, turn your radio station to 103.5, get out of your car, look for the blue jaguar s type then come up to me and say hi Jean.
Get on your knees, look up the in the air and say -- Oh thank you for not raining, then jump up and down say wooohooo for 3.5 minutes - look for the blue jaguar s type then come up to me and say hi Jean.

Seriously. I've sat in my car waiting for almost 30 minutes while the couple waited for me to get off the phone thinking I was busy.

8mm & Super 8 Film - We convert 8mm to DVD

8mm & Super 8 Transfers

8mm

8mm film is a motion picture film format in which the filmstrip is eight millimeters wide. It exists in two main versions: regular, normal, or standard 8mm and Super 8 (see below). There are also two other varieties of Super 8 which require different cameras but which produce a final film with the same dimensions.

Use of 8mm mainly took place between the 1930's to 1990's, Kodak then ceased producing standard 8 mm film in the early 1990s.

The standard 8 mm film format was developed by the Eastman Kodak company during the Great Depression and released on the market in 1932 to create a home movie format less expensive than 16mm. The film spools actually contain a 16mm film with twice as many perforations along each edge than normal 16mm film, which is only exposed along half of its width. When the film reaches its end in the takeup spool, the camera is opened and the spools in the camera are flipped and swapped (the design of the spool hole ensures that this happens properly) and the same film is exposed along the side of the film left unexposed on the first loading. During processing, the film is split down the middle, resulting in two lengths of 8mm film, each with a single row of perforations along one edge, so fitting four times as many frames in the same amount of 16mm film. Because the spool was reversed after filming on one side to allow filming on the other side the format was sometimes called Double 8. The framesize of regular 8mm is 4.8mm x 3.5mm and 1m film contains 264 pictures. Normally Double8 is filmed at 16 frame/s.

Common length film spools are allowed to film about 3min to 4.5min at 12, 15, 16 and 18 frames per second.

Today nearly all the 8mm film stored in basements, closets and garages are slowly fading away. Most people will have 3 different size reels.

3" reels are the size of a hockey puck and contain 3min to 4.5min of footage. In the past people would often take these reels and edit them together on larger reels for convenient viewing. Thus the other two popular sizes are 5" and 7".

Super 8

Super 8 is a motion picture film format that was developed in the 1960s and released on the market in 1965 by Eastman Kodak as an improvement of the older 8mm home movie format.

The film is 8 mm wide, exactly the same as the older standard 8 mm film and also has perforations on only one side, but the dimensions of the perforations are reduced, allowing the exposed area to be increased in size. The Super-8 standard also specifically allocates the rebate opposite the perforations for an oxide stripe upon which sound can be magnetically recorded. There are several different varieties of the film system used for shooting, but the final film in each case has the same dimensions. By far the most popular system was the Kodak system.

Launched in 1965, the film comes in plastic light-proof cartridges containing coaxial supply and take-up spools loaded with 50 feet of film. This was enough film for 2.5 minutes at the U.S. motion picture professional standard of 24 frames per second, and for 3 minutes and 20 seconds of continuous filming at 18 frames per second for amateur use, for a total of 3600 frames. A 200-foot reel later became available which could be used in specifically-designed cameras, but that Kodak cartridge is no longer produced. The most significant difference between 8mm and Super 8 is audio. The Super-8 standard also specifically allocates the opposite of the perforations for an oxide stripe upon which sound can be magnetically recorded.
